    حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ التَّمِيمِيِّ، عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ الْجَرْمِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ، قَالَ: فَقَدَّمَ طَعَامَهُ وَقَدَّمَ فِي طَعَامِهِ لَحْمَ دَجَاجٍ وَفِي الْقَوْمِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللهِ أَحْمَرُ كَأَنَّهُ مَوْلًى، قَالَ: فَلَمْ يَدْنُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو مُوسَى: ادْنُ، فَإِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكَلَ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي رَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ شَيْئًا، فَقَذِرْتُهُ فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لا أَطْعَمَهُ أَبَدًا.

    Zahdam al-Jarmi said: “We were in the presence of Abu Musa al-Ash’ari. Among the people there was a man from the Banu Taimi’llah, ruddy as if he were a freed slave, and he did not draw near, so Abu Musa said to him: ‘Draw near, for I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) eat some of it,’ but he said: ‘I saw it eat something and I found it loathsome, so I swore that I would never taste it’!”

    حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، وَأَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، يُقَالُ: لَهُ عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ أَبِي أَسِيدٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ، وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ.

    Ata’ ibn Abi Asid, said: “Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘Eat [olive] oil, and anoint with it, for it is from a blessed tree!’”

    حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ وَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ، فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ.

    ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah the Exalted be well pleased with him) said: “Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘Eat oil, and anoint with it, for it is from a blessed tree’!”

    حَدَّثَنَا السِّنْجِيُّ وَهُوَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ السِّنْجِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَحْوَهُ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ.

    Another chain reports similar to the previous narration and it did not mention “related from ‘Umar (RA)”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالا: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعْجِبُهُ الدُّبَّاءُ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ، أَوْ دُعِيَ لَهُ فَجَعَلْتُ أَتَتَبَّعُهُ، فَأَضَعُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ لِمَا أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يُحِبُّهُ.

    Anas ibn Malik said: “The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to admire the gourd, so when he was brought a meal or invited to one, I would seek it out and set it in front of him, because I knew that he liked it.”

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَرَأَيْتُ عِنْدَهُ دُبَّاءً يُقَطَّعُ، فَقُلْتُ: مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ: نُكَثِّرُ بِهِ طَعَامَنَا. قال أبو عيسى: وجابر هذا هو جابر بن طارق، ويقال ابن أبي طارق وهو رجل من أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ولا نعرف له إلا هذا الحديث الواحد وأبو خالد اسمه سعد.

    Hakim ibn Jabir reported that his father said: “I entered the presence of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and I saw beside him a gourd being carved into pieces, so I said: ‘What is this?’ He said: ‘We use it to augment our meal’.”

    حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الْحَنَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لَهُ: أَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم النَّقِيَّ؟ يَعْنِي الْحُوَّارَى فَقَالَ سَهْلٌ: مَا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم النَّقِيَّ حَتَّى لَقِيَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ تَعَالَى، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: هَلْ كَانَتْ لَكُمْ مَنَاخِلُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم؟

    Sahl ibn Sa’d said that he was asked: “Did Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) eat the finest flour, meaning white bread?” Sahl said: “Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) did not see the finest flour until he met Allah (Almighty and Glorious is He).” Then he was asked: “Did you have sieves in the time of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)?” He said: “We did not have sieves.” He was asked: “How did you treat barley?” He said: “We used to blow on it, so whatever flew would fly off it, and then we would knead it.”

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: إِنَّ خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ، قَالَ أَنَسٌ: فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، إِلَى ذَلِكَ الطَّعَامِ، فَقَرَّبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خُبْزًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ، وَمَرَقًا فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ، قَالَ أَنَسُ: فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ حَوَالَيِ الْقَصْعَةِ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ يَوْمِئِذٍ.

    Anas ibn Malik said: “A tailor invited Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) to a meal he had made, so I went with Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) to that meal. He presented Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) with some barley-bread and broth containing a gourd and jerked meat. Then I saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) looking for chunks of gourd all around the bowl, and and I’ve loved gourd ever since.”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: مَا أَكَلَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ عَلَى خِوَانٍ، وَلا فِي سُكُرَّجَةٍ، وَلا خُبِزَ لَهُ مُرَقَّقٌ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ لِقَتَادَةَ: فَعَلامَ كَانُوا يَأْكُلُونَ؟ قَالَ: عَلَى هَذِهِ السُّفَرِ قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ: يُونُسُ هَذَا الَّذِي رَوَى عَنْ قَتَادَةَ هُوَ يُونُسُ الإِسْكَافُ.

    Anas ibn Malik said: “Allah’s Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) did not eat food on a table, nor in a bowl, and no bread rolled thin and flat was baked for him. I asked Qatada: ‘So on what were they used to eating?’ He said: ‘On these pieces of skin [on which food for the journey is put].”

    حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلانَ، قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحِبُّ الْحَلْوَاءَ وَالْعَسَلَ.

    ‘A’isha said: “The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to love sweets and honey.”
