    Chapter: The quantity of water required for ablution and bathing from a state of sexual impurity

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُصْعَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمُهَيْمِنِ بْنُ عَبَّاسِ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ ‏ “‏ مَضْمِضُوا مِنَ اللَّبَنِ فَإِنَّ لَهُ دَسَمًا ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    ‘Abdul-Muhaimin bin ‘Abbas bin Sahl bin Sa’d As-Sa’di narraed from his father, from his grandfather, that: The Messenger of Allah said: “Rinse your mouths after drinking milk, for it has some greasiness in it.”

    حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ السَّوَّاقُ، حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زَمْعَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ حَلَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ شَاةً وَشَرِبَ مِنْ لَبَنِهَا ثُمَّ دَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَمَضْمَضَ فَاهُ وَقَالَ ‏ “‏ إِنَّ لَهُ دَسَمًا ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: “The Messenger of Allah milked a sheep and drank some of its milk, then he called for water and rinsed his mouth and said: ‘It has some greasiness in it.’”

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَبَّلَ بَعْضَ نِسَائِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ مَا هِيَ إِلاَّ أَنْتِ ‏.‏ فَضَحِكَتْ ‏.‏

    ‘Urwah bin Az-Subair narrated from ‘Aishah, that: The Messenger of Allah kissed one of his women (i.e., wives), then he went to perform the prayer, and he did not perform ablution. I (‘Urwah bin Zubair) said: “That was not anyone but you,’ and she smiled.”

    حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الأَزْرَقُ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ كَانَ يَضَعُ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى أُذُنَيْهِ وَيَقُولُ صُمَّتَا إِنْ لَمْ أَكُنْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَقُولُ ‏ “‏ تَوَضَّئُوا مِمَّا مَسَّتِ النَّارُ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    It was narrated that Anas bin Malik would place his hands over his ears and say: “May my ears be made deaf, if I did not hear the messenger of Allah saying: ‘Perform ablution after (eating) that which has been changed by fire.’”

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ السَّهْمِيَّةِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ ثُمَّ يُقَبِّلُ وَيُصَلِّي وَلاَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَرُبَّمَا فَعَلَهُ بِي ‏.‏

    It was narrated from ‘Aishah: “The Messenger of Allah would perform ablution, then he would kiss, then he would perform prayer without performing ablution again. And sometimes he did that with me.”

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَتِفًا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ يَدَيْهِ بِمِسْحٍ كَانَ تَحْتَهُ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ فَصَلَّى ‏.‏

    It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah ate a shoulder, then he wiped his hands on a Mish that was underneath him, then he got up for prayer, and performed the prayer.

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ عَنِ الْمَذْىِ فَقَالَ ‏ “‏ فِيهِ الْوُضُوءُ وَفِي الْمَنِيِّ الْغُسْلُ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    It was narrated that ‘Ali said: “The Messenger of Allah was asked about prostatic fluid and he said: ‘For that ablution (is necessary), and for semen, bath is necessary.’”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، وَعَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَكَلَ النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ خُبْزًا وَلَحْمًا وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّئُوا ‏.‏

    It was narrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said: “The Prophet, Abu Bakr and ‘Umar ate some bread and meat, and they did not perform ablution (after that).”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَدْنُو مِنِ امْرَأَتِهِ فَلاَ يُنْزِلُ قَالَ ‏ “‏ إِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَنْضِحْ فَرْجَهُ – يَعْنِي لِيَغْسِلْهُ – وَيَتَوَضَّأْ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    It was narrated from Miqdad bin Aswad that: He asked the Prophet about a man who approached his wife, but did not ejaculate. He said: “If anyone of you finds that, he should sprinkle water over his private part (meaning he must wash it) and perform ablution.”

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَنَامُ حَتَّى يَنْفُخَ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي وَلاَ يَتَوَضَّأُ ‏.‏ قَالَ الطَّنَافِسِيُّ قَالَ وَكِيعٌ تَعْنِي وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ ‏.‏

    It was narrated that `A’ishah said: “The Messenger of Allah would fall asleep until he was breathing deeply, then he would get up and offer the prayer, and he did not perform ablution.” (Hasan)
    Tanafisi said: “Waki` said: ‘She meant while he was prostrating (he would sleep).’”
