    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَ إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى تَحْتَ خَدِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ، وَقَالَ: رَبِّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ. حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، مِثْلَهُ وَقَالَ: يَوْمَ تَجْمَعُ عِبَادَكَ.

    Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib said: “When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) lay down to sleep, he placed the palm of his right hand under his right cheek and said: ‘O my Lord, preserve me from Your torment on the day when You resurrect Your servants!’”

    حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا، وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ، قَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانًا بَعْدَمَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ.

    Hudhaifa said: “When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) went to his mattress, he would say: ‘O Allah, in Your Name I shall die and live,’ and when he woke up, he would say: ‘Praise be to Allah, who has revived us after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection!’”

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، أُرَاهُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ جَمَعَ كَفَّيْهِ فَنَفَثَ فِيهِمَا، وَقَرَأَ فِيهِمَا: قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِمَا مَا اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، يَبْدَأُ بِهِمَا رَأْسَهُ وَوَجْهَهُ وَمَا أَقْبَلَ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.

    ‘A’isha said: “When Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) went to his mattress each night, he joined the palms of his hands, then breathed into them and recited into them: “Say: ‘He is Allah, One [qul Huwa’llahu Ahad]!’ (Al-Qur’an;112:1), and: “Say: ‘I take refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak [qul a’udhu bi-Rabbil-falaq]!’ (Al-Qur’an;113:1), and: “Say: ‘I take refuge with the Lord of humankind [qul a’udhu bi-Rabbi’n-nas]!’ (Al-Qur’an;114:1), Then he passed them over as much of his body as he could, beginning with his head and his face and the front of his body, doing that three times.”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيلٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، نَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، وَكَانَ إِذَا نَامَ نَفَخَ، فَأَتَاهُ بِلالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلاةِ، فَقَامَ وَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ.

    Ibn ‘Abbas said: “Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) slept until he gasped for breath, and he had gasped for breath while he was sleeping, so Bilal came to him and called him to the ritual prayer, whereupon he got up and performed the ritual prayer, and he did not perform the minor ritual ablution. And there is a story behind this tradition.”

    حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمُبَارِكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: أَتَتْ عَجُوزٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَنِي الْجَنَّةَ، فَقَالَ: يَا أُمَّ فُلانٍ، إِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ لا تَدْخُلُهَا عَجُوزٌ، قَالَ: فَوَلَّتْ تَبْكِي، فَقَالَ: أَخْبِرُوهَا أَنَّهَا لا تَدْخُلُهَا وَهِيَ عَجُوزٌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى، يَقُولُ: إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً، فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا، عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا.

    Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: “An old woman came to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, beseech Allah to let me enter the Garden of Paradise!’ He replied: ‘O Mother of So-and-so, no old woman will enter the Garden of Paradise!’ She turned away weeping, so he said: ‘Tell her that she will not enter it as an old woman, for Allah says: ‘We have created them a new creation, and made them virgins, loving, equal in age [inna ansha’na-hunna insha’a: fa-ja’alna-hunna abkara ‘uruban atraba].’” (Al-Qur’an; 56:35-37)

    حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: قِيلَ لَهَا: هَلْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَتَمَثَّلُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الشِّعْرِ؟ قَالَتْ: كَانَ يَتَمَثَّلُ بِشِعْرِ ابْنِ رَوَاحَةَ، وَيَتَمَثَّلُ بِقَوْلِهِ: يَأْتِيكَ بِالأَخْبَارِ مَنْ لَمْ تُزَوَّدِ.

    ‘A’isha (may Allah be well pleased with her) said that she was asked: “Was Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to imitating any form of poetry?” She said: “He used to imitate the poetry of Ibn Rawaha, and he would imitate his saying: “You will be brought the news by someone whom you have not furnished with travel provisions.”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنَّ أَصْدَقَ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَهَا الشَّاعِرُ، كَلِمَةُ لَبِيدٍ: أَلا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلا اللَّهَ بَاطِلٌ، وَكَادَ أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ.

    Abu Huraira said (may Allah be well pleased with him): “Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘The most truthful saying spoken by a poet is the saying of Labid: Everything but Allah is surely futile,’ and [the poet] Umayya ibn Abi’s-Salt almost embraced Islam.’”

    حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ جَزْءٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَكْثَرَ تَبَسُّمًا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم..

    ‘Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Jaz said (may Allah be well pleased with him): “I have not seen anyone with a more cheerful countenance than Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)!”

    حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الْبَجَلِيِّ، قَالَ: أَصَابَ حَجَرٌ أُصْبُعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَدَمِيَتْ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ أَنْتِ إِلا أُصْبُعٌ دَمِيتِ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مَا لَقِيتِ. حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ جُنْدُبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ، نَحْوَهُ.

    Jundub ibn Sufyan al-Bajali said: “A stone hit the finger of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), causing it to bleed, so he said [in poetic verse]: ‘Are you nothing but a finger that has bled without having suffered in Allah’s cause?’”

    Abdullah ibn al-Harith said (may Allah be well pleased with him): “The laughter of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was nothing but a joyful smile.”
