    Chapter: The Prohibition Of Entering Upon The People Of Al-Hijr (The Rocky Tract) Unless One Enters Weeping

    حَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ،
    عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى
    الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى أَنَا أَغْنَى الشُّرَكَاءِ عَنِ الشِّرْكِ مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلاً
    أَشْرَكَ فِيهِ مَعِي غَيْرِي تَرَكْتُهُ وَشِرْكَهُ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as stating that Allah the Most High and Exalted said: I am the One, One Who does not stand in need of a partner. If anyone does anything in which he associates anyone else with Me, I shall abandon him with one whom he associates with Allah.

    حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ سُمَيْعٍ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ،
    الْبَطِينِ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
    ‏ “‏ مَنْ سَمَّعَ سَمَّعَ اللَّهُ بِهِ وَمَنْ رَاءَى رَاءَى اللَّهُ بِهِ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    Ibn Abbas reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone wants to have his deeds widely publicised, Allah will publicise (his humiliation). And if anyone makes a hypocritical display (of his deeds) Allah will make a display of him.

    حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، قَالَ
    سَمِعْتُ جُنْدُبًا الْعَلَقِيَّ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ مَنْ يُسَمِّعْ يُسَمِّعِ اللَّهُ
    بِهِ وَمَنْ يُرَائِي يُرَائِي اللَّهُ بِهِ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏

    Jundub reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who wants to publicise (his deeds), Allah will publicise (his humility), and he who makes a hypocritical display (of his deeds), Allah will make a display of him.

    وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُلاَئِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَزَادَ
    وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا غَيْرَهُ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏

    Sufyan reported this hadith with the same chain of transmitters and he made this addition: ” I did not hear anyone saying besides him that it was Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) who had said so.”

    أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى – قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَلَمَةَ بْنَ كُهَيْلٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جُنْدُبًا،
    – وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَحَدًا يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم غَيْرَهُ – يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ
    رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ ‏.‏

    Salama b. Kuhail reported: I heard from Jundub, but I did not hear him say this: “I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying this.”

    الإِسْنَادِ ‏.‏

    Abu Sufyan reported like that as as-Saduq al-Amin al-Walid b. Harb narrated with the same chain of transmitters.

    عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا شَبِعَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَيْنِ مِنْ خُبْزِ بُرٍّ إِلاَّ وَأَحَدُهُمَا
    تَمْرٌ ‏.‏

    ‘A’isha reported: Never could the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) (afford to eat) the bread of wheat for two days successively. Even (out of these two days) one (was such wherein he could get) only a date.

    حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، –
    وَهُوَ يَذْكُرُ الْحِجْرَ مَسَاكِنَ ثَمُودَ – قَالَ سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ مَرَرْنَا
    مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى الْحِجْرِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
    ‏ “‏ لاَ تَدْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَكُونُوا بَاكِينَ حَذَرًا أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مِثْلُ مَا
    أَصَابَهُمْ ‏” ‏ ‏.‏ ثُمَّ زَجَرَ فَأَسْرَعَ حَتَّى خَلَّفَهَا ‏.‏

    Ibn Shihab reported, and he had been talking about the stony abodes of Thamud, and he said: Salim b. ‘Abdullah reported that ‘Abdullah b. Umar said: We were passing along with Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) through the habitations of Hijr, and Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Do not enter but weepingly the habitations of these persons who committed tyranny among themselves, lest the same calamity should fall upon you as it fell upon them. He then urged his mount to proceed quickly and pass through that valley hurriedly.

    هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ إِنْ كُنَّا آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَنَمْكُثُ
    شَهْرًا مَا نَسْتَوْقِدُ بِنَارٍ إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ ‏.‏

    ‘A’isha reported: We the family of Muhammad (ﷺ) used to spend (the whole) month in which we (did not need to) kindle the fire as (we had nothing to cook) ; we had only dates and water (to fill our bellies).

    وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، وَابْنُ، نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ
    هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ إِنْ كُنَّا لَنَمْكُثُ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ ‏.‏ وَزَادَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ فِي
    حَدِيثِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَأْتِيَنَا اللُّحَيْمُ ‏.‏

    This hadith has been narrated on the authority of ‘Urwa with the same chain of transmitters (and the words are): ” We used to spend-” And he did not make a mention of the family of Muhammad (ﷺ), and Abu Kuraib made this addition to his hadith which was transmitted on the authority of Ibn Numair (and the words are):” But this that there was brought to us some meat.”
