    وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا طَاعَةَ فِي مَعْصِيَةٍ إِنَّمَا الطَّاعَةُ فِي الْمَعْرُوف»

    ‘Ali reported God’s Messenger as saying, “No obedience is to be given in the case of an act of disobedience to God, obedience is to be given only regarding what is reputable.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

    وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «السَّمعُ والطاعةُ على المرءِ المسلمِ فِيمَا أحب وأكره مَا لَمْ يُؤْمَرْ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَإِذَا أُمِرَ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَلَا سَمْعَ وَلَا طَاعَةَ»

    Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Hearing and obeying are the duty of a Muslim man both regarding what he likes and what he dislikes, as long as he is not commanded to perform an act of disobedience to God, in which case he must neither hear nor obey.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

    وَعَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا وَإِنِ اسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ كَأَنَّ رَأْسَهُ زَبِيبَةٌ» . رَوَاهُ البُخَارِيّ

    Anas reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Listen and obey, even if an Abyssinian slave with a head like a raisin* is made governor over you.” Bukhari transmitted it. * This is said to refer to the head being small, or to the hair being crisp and curly, or short.

    وَعَنْ أُمِّ الْحُصَيْنِ قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ مُجَدَّعٌ يَقُودُكُمْ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطيعُوا» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم

    Umm al-Husain reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If a slave who has been mutilated is made your commander and leads you in accordance with God’s Book, listen to him and obey.” Muslim transmitted it.

    عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ وَمَنْ عَصَانِي فَقَدْ عَصَى اللَّهَ وَمَنْ يُطِعِ الْأَمِيرَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَنِي وَمَنْ يَعْصِ الْأَمِيرَ فَقَدْ عَصَانِي وَإِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ فَإِنْ أَمَرَ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَعَدَلَ فَإِنَّ لَهُ بِذَلِكَ أَجْرًا وَإِنْ قالَ بغَيرِه فَإِن عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُ»

    Abu Huraira reported God’s Messenger as saying, “He who obeys me has obeyed God and he who disobeys me has disobeyed God; he who obeys the commander has obeyed me and he who disobeys the commander has disobeyed me. The imam is only a shield behind whom fighting is engaged in and by whom protection is sought; so if he commands piety and acts justly he will have a reward for that, but if he holds another view he will on that account be held guilty.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

    وَعَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: مَا أُبالي شرِبتُ الخمرَ أَو عبدْتُ هذهِ السَّارِيةَ دونَ اللَّهِ. رَوَاهُ النَّسَائِيّ

    Abu Musa used to say: It is all the same to me whether I drink wine or worship this pillar instead of God.* Nasa’i transmitted it. *He says that the one sin is as serious as the other.

    وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ إِنْ مَاتَ لقيَ اللَّهَ كعابِدِ وثن» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد وروى ابْن مَاجَه عَن أبي هُرَيْرَة وَالْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي «شُعَبِ الْإِيمَانِ» عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عبيد الله عَن أَبِيه. قَالَ: ذَكَرَ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي التَّارِيخِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عبد الله عَن أَبِيه

    Ibn ‘Abbas reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If one who is addicted to wine dies he will meet God most high in the same condition as an idolater.” Ahmad transmitted it, Ibn Majah transmitted on Abu Huraira’s authority, and Baihaqi, in Shu’ab al-iman , gave it on the authority of Muhammad b. ‘Ubaidallah who quoted his father’s authority. He said that Bukhari in his Ta’rikh mentioned it on the authority of Muhammad b. ‘Abdallah who quoted his father’s authority.

    وَعَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ” ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تَدْخُلُ الجنَّةَ: مُدْمنُ الخمرِ وقاطِعُ الرَّحِم ومصدق السحر ” رَوَاهُ أَحْمد

    Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari reported the Prophet as saying, “There are three who will not enter paradise: one who is addicted to wine, one who breaks ties of relationship, and one who believes in magic.” Ahmad transmitted it.

    وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ” ثَلَاثَةٌ قَدْ حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَنَّةَ: مُدْمِنُ الْخَمْرِ وَالْعَاقُّ وَالدَّيُّوثُ الَّذِي يُقِرُّ فِي أَهْلِهِ الْخَبَثَ ” . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالنَّسَائِيّ

    Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s Messenger as saying, “There are three to whom God has forbidden paradise: one who is addicted to wine, an undutiful son, and a cuckold who agrees to his women-folk’s adultery.” Ahmad and Nasa’i transmitted it.

    وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ” إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى بَعَثَنِي رَحْمَة للعالمينَ وهُدىً لِلْعَالِمِينَ وَأَمَرَنِي رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِمَحْقِ الْمَعَازِفِ وَالْمَزَامِيرِ وَالْأَوْثَانِ وَالصُّلُبِ وَأَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَحَلَفَ رَبِّي عزَّ وجلَّ: بعِزَّتي لَا يشربُ عبدٌ منْ عَبِيدِي جرعة خَمْرٍ إِلَّا سَقَيْتُهُ مِنَ الصَّدِيدِ مِثْلَهَا وَلَا يَتْرُكُهَا مِنْ مَخَافَتِي إِلَّا سَقَيْتُهُ مِنْ حِيَاضِ الْقُدس ” . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد

    Abu Umama reported the Prophet as saying, “God has sent me as a mercy to the universe and as a guidance to the universe, and my Lord who is great and glorious has commanded me to annihilate stringed instruments, wind instruments, idols, crosses and pre-Islamic customs, and my Lord who is great and glorious has sworn, ‘By my might, none of my servants will drink a mouthful of wine without my giving him a similar amount of pus to drink, but he will not abandon it through fear of me without my giving him drink from the holy tanks’.” Ahmad transmitted it.
