    أَعـوذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْـطانِ الرَّجيـم


    English Translation:

    A`ūdhu billāhi minash-Shayṭānir-rajīm.

    I seek refuge in Allah from Satan the outcast.

  • Chapter: Upon seeing someone in trial or tribulation

    الْحَمْـدُ للهِ الّذي عافاني مِمّا ابْتَـلاكَ بِهِ،
    وَفَضَّلَـني عَلى كَثيـرٍ مِمَّنْ خَلَـقَ تَفْضـيلا


    English Translation:

    Alhamdu lillāhi ‘l-ladhī `āfānī mimmab-talāka bihi
    wa faḍḍalanī `alā kathīrin mimman khalaqa tafḍīlā.

    Praise is to Allah Who has spared me what He has afflicted you with,
    and preferred me greatly above much of what He has created.

  • Chapter: At a sitting or gathering

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 195

    عن ابن عمر قال : كان يعد لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في المجلس الواحد مائة مرة من قبل أن يقوم
    “رب اغفر لي
    وتب علي
    إنك أنت التواب الغفور”


    English Translation:

    Ibn Umar (ra) said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to repeat in a single sitting:
    Rabbigh’fir lī
    wa tub `alayy
    innaka antat-Tawwābu ‘l-Ghafūr.

    Ibn Umar (ra) said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) used to repeat in a single sitting:

    My Lord, forgive me,
    and accept my repentance,
    You are the Ever-Relenting, the All-Forgiving.

  • Chapter: Upon completing the meal

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 180

    الْحَمْـدُ للهِ الَّذي أَطْعَمَنـي هـذا
    وَرَزَقَنـيهِ مِنْ غَـيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلا قُوَّة


    English Translation:

    Alhamdu lillāhi ‘l-ladhī aṭ`amanī hādhā,
    wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.

    Praise is to Allah Who has given me this food,
    and sustained me with it though I was unable to do it and powerless.

  • Chapter: For the expiation of sins, said at the conclusion of a sitting or gathering

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 196

    سُبْحـانَكَ اللّهُـمَّ وَبِحَمدِك،
    أَشْهَـدُ أَنْ لا إِلهَ إِلاّ أَنْتَ
    أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتوبُ إِلَـيْك


    English Translation:

    Subhānaka Allāhumma wa biḥamdik,
    ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā ant,
    astaghfiruka wa atību ilayk.

    Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise is to You.
    I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You.
    I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.

    At-Tirmidhi 3/ 153. Aishah (RA) said: “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) did not sit
    in a gathering, and did not recite the Qur’an, and did not perform any
    prayer without concluding by saying … (then she quoted the above).” This
    was reported by An-Nasa’i in ‘Amalul-Yawm wal-Laylah (no.308), and Dr.
    Farooq Hamadah graded it authentic in his checking of the same book, p.

  • Chapter: Upon completing the meal

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 181

    الْحَمْـدُ للهِ حَمْـداً كَثـيراً طَيِّـباً مُبـارَكاً فيه،
    غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ وَلا مُوَدَّعٍ وَلا مُسْتَغْـنىً عَنْـهُ رَبَّـنا


    English Translation:

    Alhamdu lillāhi ḥamdan kathīran tayyiban mubārakan fīh,
    ghayra makfiyyin wa lā muwadda`in,
    wa lā mustaghnan `anhu Rabbanā.

    All praise is to Allah, praise in abundance, good and blessed. It cannot [be compensated for, nor can it] be left, nor can it be done without, our Lord.

  • Chapter: Returning a supplication of forgiveness

  • Chapter: Of the guest for the host

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 182

    اللّهُـمَّ بارِكْ لَهُمْ فيما رَزَقْـتَهُم،
    وَاغْفِـرْ لَهُـمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ


    English Translation:

    Allāhumma bārik lahum fī mā razaqtahum,
    wagh’fir lahum warḥamhum.

    O Allah, bless them in what You have provided for them,
    and forgive them and have mercy on them.

  • Chapter: To one who does you a favour

    جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً


    English Translation:

    Jazākallāhu khayra.

    May Allah reward you with good.

  • Chapter: To one who intends to give food or drink

    Status Reference : Hisn al-Muslim 183

    اللّهُـمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَن أَطْعَمَني،
    وَاسْقِ مَن سقاني


    English Translation:

    Allāhumma aṭ`im man aṭ`amanī
    wasqi man saqānī.

    O Allah, feed the one who has fed me,
    and give drink to the one who has given me drink.
