باب الْعَمَلِ فِي افْتِتَاحِ الصَّلاَةِ
Chapter: What is done at the beginning of the prayer

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ قَامَ مُعَاذٌ فَصَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ الآخِرَةَ فَطَوَّلَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏”‏ أَفَتَّانٌ يَا مُعَاذُ أَفَتَّانٌ يَا مُعَاذُ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ عَنْ ‏ {‏ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ‏} ‏ وَالضُّحَى وَ ‏ {‏ إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْفَطَرَتْ ‏} ‏ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

It was narrated that Jabir said: “Muadh stood up and prayed Isha’, and made it lengthy. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Do you want to cause hardship to the people, O Mu’adh; do you want to cause hardship to the people O Mu’adh? Why didn’t you recite ‘Glorify the Name of your Lord Most High’ or Ad-Duha or; ‘When the heaven is cleft asunder?”
