حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: لاَ تَقُولُوا لِلْمُنَافِقِ: سَيِّدٌ، فَإِنَّهُ إِنْ يَكُ سَيِّدَكُمْ فَقَدْ أَسْخَطْتُمْ رَبَّكُمْ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

‘Abdullah ibn Burayda reported from his father that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do not call a hypocrite ‘master’. He is not your master and you will have angered your Lord, the Mighty and Exalted.”
