    وَعَنْهُ قَالَ : { كَانَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ قِرَاءَةِ أُمِّ اَلْقُرْآنِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ وَقَالَ : “آمِينَ” . } رَوَاهُ اَلدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ وَحَسَّنَهُ , وَالْحَاكِمُ وَصَحَّحَهُ . 1 . 1 – صحيح بما بعده ، رواه الدارقطني (1/335) ، والحاكم (1/223) .

    Narrated [Abu Hurairah (RA)]: When Allah’s Messenger (RA) completed the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha, he raised his voice and said Amin. [Reported by ad-Daraqutni who graded it Hasan (good) and Al-Hakim who graded it Sahih (authentic)).

    284 ـ وَلِأَبِي دَاوُدَ وَاَلتِّرْمِذِيِّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ وَائِلِ بْنِ حُجْرٍ نَحْوُهُ. 1 1 – صحيح . رواه أبو داود (932) ، والترمذي ( 248) عن وائل بن حجر -رضي الله عنه- قال : “كان رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إذا قرأ (ولا الضالين) قال : ” آمين” ورفع بها صوته” . واللفظ لأبي داود. وقال الترمذي : “حديث حسن” . قلت: بل صحيح ، ثم هو له شواهد أخرى مذكورة “بالأصل” . وقال الحافظ في “التلخيص ” (1/236) : “سنده صحيح” .

    The narrations of Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi from the Hadith of Wa’il bin Hujr (RA) are similar to this one.

    وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى -رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا- قَالَ : { جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى اَلنَّبِيِّ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -فَقَالَ : إِنِّي لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ آخُذَ مِنْ اَلْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا , فَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يُجْزِئُنِيٌ]مِنْهُ] . قَالَ : “سُبْحَانَ اَللَّهِ , وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ , وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اَللَّهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ , وَلَا حَوْلٌ وَلَا قُوَّةً إِلَّا بِاَللَّهِ اَلْعَلِيِّ اَلْعَظِيمِ . . . } اَلْحَدِيثَ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ , وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ , وَالنَّسَائِيُّ , وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنُ حِبَّانَ , وَاَلدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ, وَالْحَاكِمُ . 1 1 – حسن . رواه (4/353و356) ، وأبو داود (832) ، والنسائي (2/143) ، وابن حبان (1808) ، والدارقطني (1/313) ، والحاكم (1/241) من طريق إبراهيم السكسكي ، عن ابن أبي أوفى . وزادوا جميعا إلا النسائي وابن حبان. “قال: يا رسول الله ! هذا لله -عز وجل- فما لي ؟ قال : قل اللهم ارحمني وارزقني ، وعافني ، واهدني . فلما قام قال هكذا بيده . فقال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- : أما هذا فقد ملأ يده من الخير” . قلت : والسكسكي متكلم فيه ، ولكنه متابع.

    Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Abi Aufa (RA): A man came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and said, “I cannot memorize anything from the Qur’an, so teach me something which can be a substitute for me.” He said, “Say Subhan Allah (Allah is Free of Imperfections) walhamdu lillah (and praise is to Allah), wa la ilaha illa-Allah (and there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah), wallahu akbar (and Allah is the Most Great), wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah al-‘Ali al-‘Adheem (and there is no might and no strength but in Allah, the Most High, the Supreme)” [Reported by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and An-Nasa’i; and Ibn Hibban, ad-Daraqutni and Al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

    وَعَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ – رضى الله عنه – قَالَ : { كَانَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يُصَلِّي بِنَا , فَيَقْرَأُ فِي اَلظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ – فِي اَلرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اَلْأُولَيَيْنِ – بِفَاتِحَةِ اَلْكِتَابِ وَسُورَتَيْنِ , وَيُسْمِعُنَا اَلْآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا , وَيُطَوِّلُ اَلرَّكْعَةَ اَلْأُولَى , وَيَقْرَأُ فِي اَلْأُخْرَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ اَلْكِتَابِ. } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ . 1 1 – صحيح . رواه البخاري (759) ، ومسلم (451) .

    Narrated Abu Qatadah (RA): Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to lead us in prayer and recite in the first two Rak’a of the Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers Surat Al-Fatiha and two (other) Surah. And he would sometimes recite loud enough for us to hear the Verses. He would prolong the first Rak’a, and would recite in the last two Rak’a Surat Al-Fatiha (only). [Agreed upon].

    وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ اَلْخُدْرِيِّ – رضى الله عنه – قَالَ : { كُنَّا نَحْزُرُ قِيَامَ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -فِي اَلظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ , فَحَزَرْنَا قِيَامَهُ فِي اَلرَّكْعَتَيْنِ اَلْأُولَيَيْنِ مِنْ اَلظُّهْرِ قَدْرَ : (الم تَنْزِيلُ) اَلسَّجْدَةِ . وَفِي اَلْأُخْرَيَيْنِ قَدْرَ اَلنِّصْفِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ . وَفِي اَلْأُولَيَيْنِ مِنْ اَلْعَصْرِ عَلَى قَدْرِ اَلْأُخْرَيَيْنِ مِنْ اَلظُّهْرِ , وَالْأُخْرَيَيْنِ مِنْ اَلظُّهْرِ } رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ . 1 1 – صحيح . رواه مسلم (452) ، ونحزر : نقدر.

    Narrated Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (RA): We used to estimate the length of the standing position of Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers, and we estimated that he stood in the first two Rak’a of the Zuhr prayer as long as it takes to recite Alif-Lam-Mim, Tanzil (Surat As-Sajdah) and in the last two Rak’a, half the time of that. And in the first two Rak’a of ‘Asr, he used to stand as long as the last two of the Zuhr. And the last two Rak’a of ‘Asr used to be of about half the time of the first two.” [Reported by Muslim).

    وَعَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ – رضى الله عنه – 1 قَالَ : { كَانَ فُلَانٍ يُطِيلُ اَلْأُولَيَيْنِ مِنْ اَلظُّهْرِ, وَيُخَفِّفُ اَلْعَصْرَ, وَيَقْرَأُ فِي اَلْمَغْرِبِ بِقِصَارِ اَلْمُفَصَّلِ وَفِي اَلْعِشَاءِ بِوَسَطِهِ وَفِي اَلصُّبْحِ بِطُولِهِ . فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : “مَا صَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءِ أَحَدٍ أَشْبَهَ صَلَاةِ بِرَسُولِ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -مِنْ هَذَا } . أَخْرَجَهُ النَّسَائِيُّ بِإِسْنَادٍ صَحِيحٍ 2 1 – كذا في “أ” ولا مانع من الترضي عن غير الصحابة، وإن كان بالصحابة أشهر وأعرف . 2 – صحيح رواه النسائي (2/167 و 167 – 168) ولكن تصرف الحافظ في بعض ألفاظه.

    Narrated Sulaiman bin Yasar: So-and-so used to prolong the first two Rak’a of the Zuhr prayer and shorten the ‘Asr prayer, and recite the short Surah of Mufassal at Maghrib prayer, its medium Surah at the ‘Isha’ prayer, and its long ones at the Fajr prayer. Then Abu Hurairah (RA) said: “I never prayed behind anyone whose prayer more closely resembles that of Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) than this person.” [Reported by an-Nasa’i with a Sahih (authentic) Isnad].

    وَعَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ – رضى الله عنه – قَالَ : { سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يَقْرَأُ فِي اَلْمَغْرِبِ بِالطُّورِ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ . 1 1 – صحيح . رواه البخاري (765) ، ومسلم (463) .

    Narrated Jubair bin Mut’im (RA): I heard Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) reciting at-Tur (the Mountain – Surat No. 52) in the Maghrib (sunset) prayer. [Agreed upon).

    وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ , لِابْنِ حِبَّانَ وَاَلدَّارَقُطْنِيِّ : { لَا تَجْزِي صَلَاةٌ لَا يُقْرَأُ فِيهَا بِفَاتِحَةِ اَلْكِتَابِ } 1 1 – صحيح . رواه الدارقطني (1 /321 – 322 ) من حديث عبادة ، وقال الدارقطني : “هذا إسناد صحيح” . وأما رواية ابن حبان (1789) فهي من طريق عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب مولى الحرقة ، عن أبي هريرة ، به وزاد من قول عبد الرحمن لأبي هريرة : “قلت: وإن كنت خلف الإمام ؟ قال : فأخذ بيدي، وقال : اقرأ في نفسك ” .

    In the narration of Ibn Hibban and ad-Daraqutni is mentioned: “The Salat (prayer) is not complete if one does not recite (Surat) Fatiha al-Kitab.”

    وَلِأَبِي دَاوُدَ : { ثُمَّ اِقْرَأْ بِأُمِّ اَلْقُرْآنِ وَبِمَا شَاءَ اَللَّهُ } 1 1 – صحيح . رواه أبو داود (8529) .

    And Abu Dawud has “Then read the Ummul-Qur’an (i.e. Surah al-Fatiha) and what ever Allah wishes”.

    وَفِي أُخْرَى , لِأَحْمَدَ وَأَبِي دَاوُدَ , وَاَلتِّرْمِذِيِّ , وَابْنِ حِبَّانَ : { لَعَلَّكُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ خَلْفَ إِمَامِكُمْ ? ” قُلْنَا : نِعْمَ . قَالَ : ” لَا تَفْعَلُوا إِلَّا بِفَاتِحَةِ اَلْكِتَابِ , فَإِنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةِ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِهَا } 1 1 – حسن . رواه أحمد (5/321 – 322) ، وأبو داود (823) ، والترمذي (311) ، وابن حبان (1785). وقال الترمذي : “حديث حسن ” .

    And in another narration of Ahmad, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibban is: “Perhaps you recite behind your Imam?” We replied, “Yes.” He [the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)] said, “Do not do so except when it is (Surat) Fatiha al-Kitab, for the Salat (prayer) of the one who does not recite it, is not accepted.”
