    وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ – رضى الله عنه – أَنَّ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { مَنْ أَدْرَكَ مِنْ اَلصُّبْحِ رَكْعَةً قَبْلِ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ اَلشَّمْسُ فَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ اَلصُّبْحَ, وَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً مِنْ اَلْعَصْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغْرُبَ اَلشَّمْسُ فَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ اَلْعَصْرَ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه البخاري (579)، ومسلم (608).

    Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “He who prays a Rak’a of the Fajr prayer before the sun rises, has offered the dawn prayer in its time, and he who prays a Rak’a of the ‘Asr prayer before the sun sets has offered the afternoon prayer.” [Agreed upon].

    وَلِمُسْلِمٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ نَحْوَهُ, وَقَالَ: “سَجْدَةً” بَدَلَ “رَكْعَةً”. ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَالسَّجْدَةُ إِنَّمَا هِيَ اَلرَّكْعَةُ 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (609) ولفظه: “من أدرك من العصر سجدة قبل أن تغرب الشمس، أو من الصبح قبل أن تطلع فقد أدركها” والسجدة إنما هي الركعة.

    Muslim reported the same above Hadith in another version narrated by ‘Aishah (RA), who narrated ‘Sajdah (prostration)’ instead of ‘Rak’a (prayer unit)’ and then he (Muslim) said: “A Sajdah implies a Rak’a.”

    وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ اَلْخُدْرِيِّ – رضى الله عنه – قَالَ: سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يَقُولُ: { لَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ اَلصُّبْحِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ اَلشَّمْسُ وَلَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ اَلْعَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغِيبَ اَلشَّمْسُ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.

    Narrated Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (RA): I heard Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saying: “No Salat (prayer) is to be offered after the morning prayer until the sun rises, or after the afternoon prayer until the sun sets.” [Agreed upon].

    وَلَفْظُ مُسْلِمٍ: { لَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ اَلْفَجْرِ } 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه البخاري (586)، ومسلم (827) وفي لفظ البخاري “ترتفع” بدل “تطلع”. وأن لفظ مسلم فعدا عما ذكره الحافظ فقد وقع عنده تقديم النهي عن الصلاة بعد العصر على النهي بعد صلاة الفجر. وعنده أيضا “تغرب” بدل “تغيب”.

    And in the narration of Muslim: “There is no Salat (prayer) after the Fajr (morning) prayer.”

    وَلَهُ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ: { ثَلَاثُ سَاعَاتٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يَنْهَانَا أَنْ نُصَلِّي فِيهِنَّ, وَأَنْ 1 نَقْبُرَ فِيهِنَّ مَوْتَانَا: حِينَ تَطْلُعُ اَلشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً حَتَّى تَرْتَفِعَ, وَحِينَ يَقُومُ قَائِمُ اَلظَّهِيرَةِ حَتَّى تَزُولَ 2 اَلشَّمْسُ, وَحِينَ تَتَضَيَّفُ 3 اَلشَّمْسُ لِلْغُرُوبِ } 4 . 1 – في مسلم: “أو أن”. 2 – في مسلم: “تميل” . 3 – في مسلم: “تتضيف”. وهي بمعنى “تميل” . 4 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (831). و “قائم الظهيرة”: أي قيام الشمس وقت الزوال، وذلك عند بلوغها وسط السماء فإنها عند ذلك يبطئ حركتها.

    ‘Uqbah bin ‘Aamir (RA) narrated: “There are three times at which Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to forbid us to pray or bury our dead: (a) when the sun begins to rise till it is fully up, (b) when the sun is at its height at midday till it passes the meridian, and (c) when the sun draws near to setting till it sets.” [Reported by Muslim].

    حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ بِسَنَدٍ ضَعِيفٍ. وَزَادَ: { إِلَّا يَوْمَ اَلْجُمْعَةِ } 1 . 1 – ضعيف جدا. رواه الشافعي في “المسند” (139 /408) عن أبي هريرة؛ أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن الصلاة نصف النهار، حتى تزول الشمس إلا يوم الجمعة. قلت: وفي إسناده متروكان.

    A Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA) through a weak Sanad with the addition: “Except on Friday”.

    وَلَهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ بُرَيْدَةَ فِي اَلْعَصْرِ: { وَالشَّمْسُ بَيْضَاءُ نَقِيَّةٌ } 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (613) وعنده: “والشمس مرتفعة… “. ومعنى “بيضاء نقية”: أي: لم يدخلها شيء من الصفرة، وفي الحديث السابق: “ما لم تصفر الشمس”.

    Narrated Buraidah (RA) in another version of the above Hadith regarding ‘Asr (afternoon prayer): “When the sun is white and clear.” [Reported by Muslim].

    وَكَذَا لِأَبِي دَاوُدَ: عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ نَحْوُهُ 1 . 1 – ضعيف. رواه أبو داود (1083) عن أبي قتادة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم؛ أنه كره الصلاة نصف النهار إلا يوم الجمعة، وقال: “إن جهنم تسجر إلا يوم الجمعة”. قلت: وفي سنده ضعف وانقطاع. وأما عن الصلاة نصف النهار، فقد قال ابن القيم في “الزاد” (1/380): “اختلف الناس في كراهة الصلاة نصف النهار على ثلاثة أقوال. أحدها: أنه ليس وقت كراهة بحال، وهو مذهب مالك. الثاني: أنه وقت كراهة في يوم الجمعة وغيرها، وهو مذهب أبي حنيفة والمشهور من مذهب أحمد. الثالث: أنه وقت كراهة إلا يوم الجمعة، فليس بوقت كراهة، وهذا مذهب الشافعي”. ا. هـ. قلت: ومذهب الشافعي هو أعدل المذاهب، وهو الذي تدل عليه الأحاديث الصحيحة.

    Abu Dawud reported something similar from Abu Qatadah (RA).

    وَمِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُوسَى: { وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ } 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (614) من حديث طويل، وفيه: “ثم أمره، فأقام بالعصر… “.

    And Abu Musa (RA) narrated regarding the time of ‘Asr prayer: “While the sun is high.” [Reported by Muslim in another narration of the former Hadith].
