    وَعَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يَقُولُ: { إِنَّ طُولَ صَلَاةِ اَلرَّجُلِ, وَقِصَرَ خُطْبَتِهِ مَئِنَّةٌ مِنْ فِقْهِهِ } رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ . 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (869)، وهو بتمامه: قال أبو وائل: خطبنا عمار، فأوجز وأبلغ، فلما نزل قلنا: يا أبا اليقظان! لقد أبلغت وأوجزت. فلو كنت تنفست – أي: أطلت – فقال: إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: فذكره. وزاد: “فأطيلوا الصلاة، واقصروا الخطبة. وإن من البيان سحرا”. “ومئنة”: علامة ودليل، والمعنى: أي: مما يعرف به فقه الخطيب. قلت: وإذ كان الأمر كذلك فانظر إلى حال خطباء زمانك هذا. واسترجع الله.

    Narrated ‘Ammar bin Yasir (RA): He heard Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say: “The length of a man’s prayer and the shortness of his Khutbah (religious talk) are a sign of his understanding (of the religion).” [Reported by Muslim].

    وَعَنْ أُمِّ هِشَامٍ بِنْتِ حَارِثَةَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: { مَا أَخَذْتُ: “ق وَالْقُرْآنِ اَلْمَجِيدِ” , إِلَّا عَنْ لِسَانِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -يَقْرَؤُهَا كُلَّ جُمُعَةٍ عَلَى اَلْمِنْبَرِ إِذَا خَطَبَ اَلنَّاسَ } رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ . 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (873) (52) وانظر رقم (469).

    Umm Hisham (RA) daughter of Haritha said: I learnt Surat Qaf (Chapter 50) from no other source than the tongue of Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) who used to recite it every Friday on the pulpit when he delivered the Khutbah (sermon) to the people.” [Reported by Muslim].

    وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -{ مَنْ تَكَلَّمَ يَوْمَ اَلْجُمُعَةِ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَهُوَ كَمَثَلِ اَلْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًا, وَاَلَّذِي يَقُولُ لَهُ: أَنْصِتْ, لَيْسَتْ لَهُ جُمُعَةٌ } رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ, بِإِسْنَادٍ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ . 1 وَهُوَ يُفَسِّرُ. 1 – ضعيف. رواه أحمد (1/230/ رقم 2033)، وفيه مجالد بن سعيد، وهو ضعيف.

    Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas (RA): Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever speaks on Friday while the Imam is giving the Khutbah (religious talk), he is like a donkey which carries books; and he who tells him to be quiet has no Jumu’ah.” [Reported by Ahmad with an acceptable chain of narrators].

    حَدِيثَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ – رضى الله عنه – فِي “اَلصَّحِيحَيْنِ” مَرْفُوعًا: { إِذَا قُلْتَ لِصَاحِبِكَ: أَنْصِتْ يَوْمَ اَلْجُمُعَةِ وَالْإِمَامِ يَخْطُبُ, فَقَدْ لَغَوْتَ } 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه البخاري (935)، ومسلم (851). ومعنى: “لغوت”: قال الزين بن المنير: اتفقت أقوال المفسرين على أن اللغو ما لا يحسن من الكلام.

    This Hadith interprets the Marfu’ Hadith [attributed to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)] of Abu Hurairah reported in the Sahihain: On Friday, when the Imam is delivering the Khutbah (religious talk), if you say to your companion to keep quiet, then indeed you have committed a sin (error/something senseless).

    وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -{ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً مِنْ صَلَاةِ اَلْجُمُعَةِ وَغَيْرِهَا فَلْيُضِفْ إِلَيْهَا أُخْرَى, وَقَدْ تَمَّتْ صَلَاتُهُ } رَوَاهُ النَّسَائِيُّ, وَابْنُ مَاجَهْ, وَاَلدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ, وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ, وَإِسْنَادُهُ صَحِيحٌ, لَكِنْ قَوَّى أَبُو حَاتِمٍ إِرْسَالَهُ . 1 . 1 – صحيح. رواه النسائي (1/274-275)، وابن ماجه (1123)، والدارقطني (2/12/12).

    Narrated Ibn ‘Umar (RA): Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever is in time for a Rak’ah of the Friday prayer, or any other prayer, should add another (Rak’ah) to it and his prayer will then be complete.” [an-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah and ad-Daraqutni reported it; the wording is from ad-Daraqutni. Its chain of narrators is Sahih (authentic), but Abu Hatim strengthened the view that it is Mursal (missing link after the Tabi’i)].

    وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا, { أَنَّ اَلنَّبِيَّ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -كَانَ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا, ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ, ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا, فَمَنْ أَنْبَأَك َ 1 أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَخْطُبُ جَالِسًا, فَقَدْ كَذَبَ } أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِم ٌ 2 . 1 – كذا بالأصلين، وفي مسلم: “نبأك”. 2 – صحيح. رواه مسلم (862) (35) وتمامه: فقد والله صليت معه أكثر من ألفي صلاة.

    Narrated Jabir bin Samurah (RA): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to deliver the Khutbah (religious talk, sermon) while standing. He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would then sit down and then stand up and deliver the Khutbah in a standing posture. So, whoever informs you that he [the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)] delivered the Khutbah (religious talk, sermon) while sitting has definitely told a lie. [Reported by Muslim].

    وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: { كَانَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -إِذَا خَطَبَ, احْمَرَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ, وَعَلَا صَوْتُهُ, وَاشْتَدَّ غَضَبُهُ, حَتَّى كَأَنَّهُ مُنْذِرُ جَيْشٍ يَقُولُ: صَبَّحَكُمْ وَمَسَّاكُمْ, وَيَقُولُ: “أَمَّا بَعْدُ, فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ اَلْحَدِيثِ كِتَابُ اَللَّهِ, وَخَيْرَ اَلْهَدْيِ هَدْي ُ 1 مُحَمَّدٍ, وَشَرَّ اَلْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا، وَكُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ } 2 رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ. 1 – وضبطت في “أ”، بضم الهاء، وفتح الدال، وهو كذلك في “الصحيح”. 2 – وقول النووي -ومن تابعه ممن أخرج البلوغ- بأن قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: “وكل بدعة ضلالة” هو من العام المخصوص، لا دليل عليه، وانظر “اقتضاء الصراط المستقيم” لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية رحمه الله.

    Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (RA): Whenever Allah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) delivered a Khutbah (religious talk), his eyes would become red, his voice rose and his anger would become intensified, as if he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was like one warning an army and saying, “The enemy has made a morning attack on you. The enemy has made an evening attack on you.” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would also say “Amma ba’du, the best of speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. And the most evil of affairs are their innovations and every innovation is misguidance.” [Reported by Muslim].

    وَهُوَ فِي مُرْسَلِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ اَلْمُسَيَّبِ عِنْدَ اَلْبَيْهَقِيِّ مُخْتَصَر ٌ 1 . 1 – رواه الشافعي في “المسند” (1/512/179) بلفظ: “خياركم الذين إذا سافروا قصروا الصلاة، وأفطروا -أو قال-: لم يصوموا” وفضلا عن كونه مرسلا، فهو من رواية إبراهيم بن أبي يحيى شيخ الشافعي، وهو: “كذاب. كل بلاء فيه”.

    al-Baihaqi reported it in brief as a Mursal (missing link after the Tabi’i) from Sa’id bin al-Musaiyab.

    وَعَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: { كَانَتْ بِي بَوَاسِيرُ, فَسَأَلْتُ اَلنَّبِيَّ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -عَنْ اَلصَّلَاةِ؟ فَقَالَ: “صَلِّ قَائِمًا, فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَقَاعِدًا, فَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْتَطِعْ فَعَلَى جَنْبٍ” } رَوَاهُ اَلْبُخَارِيُّ.

    Narrated ‘Imran bin Husain (RA): I suffered from piles. So I asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) about the prayers. He said: “Pray standing; and if you are unable, (pray) sitting; and if you are unable, (pray) lying on your side.” [Reported by al-Bukhari].

    وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: { عَادَ اَلنَّبِيُّ – صلى الله عليه وسلم -مَرِيضًا, فَرَآهُ يُصَلِّي عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ, فَرَمَى بِهَا, وَقَالَ: “صَلِّ عَلَى اَلْأَرْضِ إِنْ اِسْتَطَعْتَ, وَإِلَّا فَأَوْمِ إِيمَاءً, وَاجْعَلْ سُجُودَكَ أَخْفَضَ مِنْ رُكُوعِكَ” } رَوَاهُ اَلْبَيْهَقِيُّ. وَصَحَّحَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ وَقْفَهُ.

    Narrated Jabir (RA): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) visited a sick man and saw him praying on a cushion, he threw it away and said, “Pray on the ground, if you can, or else pray by gestures and make your prostration lower than your bowing.” [al-Baihaqi reported it and Abu Hatim graded it Sahih (authentic) in Mawquf form (as a saying of a companion, i.e. Jabir)].
